How do I play American Mahjong?
American Mahjong is a tile-based game for four players (and can be adapted for two). Each player builds a hand of tiles by drawing and discarding, working toward one of the official hands on the current National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) card. The first player to complete a valid hand calls "Mahjong" and wins. It's part strategy, part luck, and endlessly social. New to the game? Are the tiles waterproof? Can I play by the pool?
Yes! Our tiles are water-friendly and designed to float, so poolside and patio game nights are no problem. If they get wet, just rinse them in fresh water, pat dry, and let them air-dry completely before storing.
What are the tiles made of?
Our sets feature 160 full-size, UV-printed tiles made from durable, water-resistant PETG — a tough plastic built to be played with for years. Each set is finished by hand with original artwork.
Do you ship custom sets? Can I order a personalized set?
We'd love to make something one-of-a-kind for you. Along with our themed designs, MIO Mahj creates custom and personalized mahjong sets — just email us at support@miomahj.com to talk through your ideas. Custom sets ship within the United States, same as our ready-made designs.
How long does shipping take?
Our handmade sets typically ship within 3–5 business days, and accessories within 2–7 business days. Once shipped, US orders generally arrive within 3–7 business days. Full details are in our Shipping Policy.
How do I care for my tiles?
Wipe tiles with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap, then dry with a soft towel. Rinse and fully dry them after pool play, and store your set in a cool, dry place out of direct sun and away from heat (never leave it in a hot car). Avoid bleach, alcohol, and abrasive cleaners.
Do you offer returns or exchanges?
Yes. We accept returns and exchanges on eligible items within 30 days of delivery (return shipping is the customer's responsibility). If any item arrives with a manufacturing defect, we'll replace it at no cost to you. See our Return & Refund Policy.
